Amb. H.E. Salih Hussain Ali Al-Tamimi
Salih Hussain Ali Al-Tamimi is an Iraqi diplomat and academic with a background in historical research and public service. He has represented Iraq in London while also engaging with British institutions on bilateral political, cultural and economic relations. History
Relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom are deeply connected to the creation of the modern Iraqi state after the First World War, when Britain administered the territory under a League of Nations mandate and played a major role in the establishment of the Iraqi monarchy. Diplomatic relations continued after Iraqi independence but were repeatedly affected by regional wars and political crises. The 2003 invasion, in which British forces took part, marked another major turning point. Iraq later re-established and expanded its diplomatic presence in London, while the UK maintains an embassy in Baghdad and a consulate-general in Erbil. More recent cooperation has focused on security, trade, investment, education and a renewed strategic partnership.
