The Ambassador
Amb. Ali Bahreini
H.E. Mr. Ali Bahreini is a senior career diplomat with extensive academic and practical experience in international law, human rights, and multilateral affairs. He assumed his role as the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office at Geneva in 2022.
Prior to his appointment in Geneva, Ambassador Bahreini served in several high-level diplomatic and administrative capacities, including as the Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and as the Director-General for Human Rights and Women's Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran. His previous diplomatic postings abroad include serving as Iran's Ambassador to Ethiopia and his country's Permanent Representative to the African Union. He holds a doctorate in International Law, and throughout his career, he has specialized in presenting Iran's legal and political arguments within complex international bodies, frequently challenging Western-led multilateral mechanisms.

The Permanent Mission in Geneva focuses its operational mandates primarily around countering international sanctions, negotiating technological and nuclear frameworks, and engaging in highly contested human rights debates. The mission is a key player in the Conference on Disarmament (CD) and maintains a continuous, complex dialogue with the UN Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Historically, Iranian diplomacy in Geneva has sought to form coalitions with other Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) states to resist unilateral coercive measures, advocate for the right to peaceful scientific development, and promote cultural diversity in the interpretation of international norms.
