The Ambassador
Amb. Mrs. Carla María Rodríguez Mancia

Her Excellency Carla María Rodríguez Mancia is a career Guatemalan diplomat, currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guatemala to the United Kingdom, based in London. She presented her Letters of Credence to King Charles III in March 2025.
Ambassador Rodríguez Mancia has a long and distinguished diplomatic career spanning nearly four decades. She began working in Guatemala’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990. She served as First Secretary and Consul, and later as Minister‑Counsellor at Guatemala’s Mission to the European Communities. She also served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization.
From 2003 to 2006, she was Director-General for International, Multilateral and Economic Affairs at the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry. She held ambassadorial posts in several countries: she was Ambassador to the Netherlands (2006–2008), to Austria (2008–2012), concurrently to the Czech Republic and Hungary (2009–2012), and to Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia (2010–2012). During her time in the Netherlands, she was also Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Alternate Governor to the Common Fund for Commodities.
She later served as Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations Office in Vienna (2008–2012) and to other international organizations. She also worked at the United Nations in Geneva as Deputy and then Permanent Representative. In 2013, she was appointed Ambassador to Spain, a post she held until 2016. In 2022, she became Guatemala’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, becoming the first Guatemalan woman to hold that position.
Her academic background is in Political and Social Sciences, with a specialization in Political Sociology, which she obtained at Rafael Landívar University in Guatemala City.
Over her career, she has focused on multilateral diplomacy, human rights, trade issues, and international cooperation. As Ambassador in London, she is committed to strengthening bilateral ties between Guatemala and the United Kingdom, particularly in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
