H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson
H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson (née Sabah Faddool) is a highly influential Ghanaian lawyer, state minister, and veteran diplomat. Born in Accra, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) before completing her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at the University of Ghana. She was called to the bar at the Ghana School of Law in 2006 and later attained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Ghana.
Transitioning to global diplomacy, she served a highly effective tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ghana to the Czech Republic (2014–2016), with concurrent non-resident accreditation to Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and North Macedonia. Following her key advisory roles in shaping domestic economic campaigns, she made history when she arrived in London to assume command of the mission, becoming the first woman to serve as Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom since the mission's establishment in 1957.
History
Bilateral ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom are historic, deeply fraternal, and multi-layered, evolving continuously since Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African nation to gain independence from British colonial rule in 1957. The High Commission operates from a magnificent, grand chancery building at 13 Belgrave Square in Belgravia.
The High Commission in London acts as a primary operational command post for executing economic statecraft, maritime shipping security, and diaspora integration between Accra and Whitehall. Under High Commissioner Benson’s modernizing leadership, a central objective of the mission is expanding commercial trade under the UK-Ghana Interim Trade Partnership Agreement, facilitating smoother investment pipelines and positioning Ghana as the primary, secure "Gateway to Africa" for British corporate enterprises. Geopolitically, the mission collaborates with Whitehall on West African security, counter-terrorism, and cybersecurity frameworks. Furthermore, the High Commission maintains an incredibly active consular and passport processing hub, supporting educational exchange programs and preserving deep links with the massive, deeply integrated Ghanaian corporate, professional, and cultural diaspora community thriving across the United Kingdom.
