The Ambassador
H.E. Alexander Maisuradze
H.E. Alexander Maisuradze is a Georgian career diplomat serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative of Georgia to the OSCE and other international organisations in Vienna. He assumed his current position in March 2025. Before this appointment, he served as Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva (2020–2024) and as Ambassador of Georgia to NATO (2015–2020).
Ambassador Maisuradze has held several senior positions within Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Head of Mission at Georgia’s Mission to NATO and diplomatic postings related to European and Euro-Atlantic affairs. His expertise lies in international security, multilateral diplomacy, and Georgia’s relations with European and international organisations.
History
Austria and Georgia established diplomatic relations on 25 March 1992, shortly after Georgia regained independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Georgia opened its embassy in Vienna in 1993, while Austria opened its embassy in Tbilisi in 2016.
Relations between the two countries are considered friendly and constructive, with cooperation focusing on European integration, trade, investment, culture, education, and development cooperation. Austria has supported Georgia’s reform process and European aspirations, while Vienna’s role as a hub for international organisations has encouraged cooperation on security and multilateral issues.
