Amb. Ms. Diana Vanegas

Her Excellency Diana Marcela Vanegas Hernández is a career Salvadoran diplomat, serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of El Salvador to the United Kingdom, based in London.

She officially assumed her post on 29 April 2024.

Ambassador Vanegas has extensive diplomatic experience: she previously served as El Salvador’s Ambassador to Brazil (2014–2019) and to Panama (2019–2024).

She is also accredited as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In London, she has prioritized strengthening political, economic, and cooperation ties between El Salvador and the UK, focusing on trade, education, health, early childhood development, digital transformation, and climate change.

She comes from a background rooted in social solidarity: she often speaks of her upbringing in El Salvador, where her parents instilled in her a strong sense of justice, social awareness, and empathy for vulnerable people.

She joined El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs early in her career — notably, she drafted a proposal that paved the way for establishing El Salvador’s first consulate in Australia and later served as chargé d’affaires in Canberra.

Outside her diplomatic work, she enjoys jazz music, walking in London’s parks, and engaging in cultural and environmental cooperation.
