Amb. Albert Njoteh Fotabong
Albert Njoteh Fotabong is a senior Cameroonian diplomat who has served as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom since 2018. In London he leads Cameroon's bilateral engagement with the British Government and represents the country in Commonwealth and other international forums. His role also covers trade, investment, consular and diaspora relations.
History
Cameroon occupies a completely unique space within global statecraft as a "bilingual bridge" (natively merging French and English legal and educational systems) and as a nation that joined the Commonwealth in 1995 despite not being a former wholesale British colony. The High Commission operates out of a historic, flagship building in the diplomatic enclave of Holland Park.
The High Commission in London serves as the primary gateway for advancing bilateral defense coordination, commercial trading partnerships, and industrial development between Yaoundé and Whitehall. Geopolitically, the mission focuses heavily on securing British counter-terrorism training and intelligence synchronization to maintain stability in the Lake Chad Basin and counter regional security threats. Under High Commissioner Fotabong's long-standing leadership, the embassy aggressively pursues economic statecraft—leveraging post-Brexit trade arrangements to secure seamless UK market access for Cameroon's vital agricultural exports (such as timber, cocoa, and bananas) while actively driving British corporate investment into Cameroon's developing green energy grids, mining ventures, and maritime ports.
