The Ambassador
Maimounata Ouattara
Born on February 19, 1972, she is a mother of two children.
She holds a Master’s Degree (MPhil) in History from the University of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. Additionally, she earned a Postgraduate Certificate in International Relations from the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC) in Yaoundé, Cameroon. She further specialized with a Postgraduate Certificate in Multilateral Diplomacy from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland.
In October 2021, she was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, serving as the Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to the Federal Republic of Austria and the International Organizations based in Vienna.
From May 2014 to November 2021, she worked as Principal Policy Officer within the Cabinet of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focusing on strategic partnerships and resource mobilization for the African Union.
Prior to that, from August 2013 to May 2014, she served in Burkina Faso as Advisor and Director for Parliamentary Diplomacy to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Between September 2011 and August 2013, she was First Counsellor and Acting Economic Counsellor at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Washington, DC, USA, after holding various other positions of responsibility within the Ministry.
From November 2008 to September 2011, she served as Second Counsellor at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Washington, DC, USA.
She began her career in 2000, joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè from abroad as a Counsellor of Foreign Affairs.
