Antonio de Aguiar Patriota is one of Brazil's most experienced diplomats. He served as Brazil's Foreign Minister from 2011 to 2013, Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2013 to 2016, Ambassador to the United States from 2007 to 2009, and Ambassador to Italy from 2016 to 2019. Before London, he also represented Brazil in Egypt and Eritrea.

History

Bilateral ties between Brazil and the United Kingdom are historic and deep, establishing formal relations in 1823 immediately following Brazilian independence. The embassy’s grand primary seat at Cockspur Street is a historic landmark located just off Trafalgar Square.

The Embassy of Brazil in London serves as a powerhouse for executing green-resource statecraft, commercial trading frameworks, and South American geopolitical strategy between Brasília and Whitehall. Historically, the United Kingdom has been a core partner in Brazil's industrial evolution, a relationship that has modernized into massive bilateral operations. Under Ambassador Patriota’s heavyweight leadership, a primary pillar of the mission is driving the Brazil-UK Joint Action Plan, focusing heavily on mobilizing British capital into Brazil's pioneering green hydrogen, sustainable agribusiness, and Amazonian eco-preservation projects. Furthermore, the embassy serves as an extensive multilateral nerve center—managing permanent interfaces with the London-based International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Coffee Organization (ICO)—while overseeing expansive consular services for the massive Brazilian diaspora community residing across the UK.
