Amb. Imtiaz Ahmed was appointed as ambassador of Bangladesh to the Federal Republic of Germany in 2017.
Prior to this assignment and until recently he was the First Resident Ambassador Extra-ordinary & Plenipotentiary to Portugal where he joined on 07 May 2013. He had also been concurrently accredited to the Republic of Cabo Verde and the Republic of Guinea Bissau from Lisbon. Before, he was A & B – grade Ambassador to Bhutan from 07 October 2010 to 28 April 2013; B- grade Ambassador (Additional Foreign Secretary) to Sweden from 01 September 2009 to 29 September 2010, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. Before that, he was B & C –grade Ambassador to Nepal from 25 September 2006 to 24 August 2009.
Political relations between Germany and Bangladesh are amicable. In 1972 Germany was one of the first European countries to recognize Bangladesh following independence from Pakistan. Germany enjoys respect not only as a longstanding and reliable partner in development cooperation but also as a trading partner and an important member of the European Union.
