The Ambassador
Amb. Muhammad Zulqar Nain
Muhammad Zulqar Nain, born on November 28, 1967, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is the current Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Federal Republic of Germany. He is married to Mrs. Afsana Bulbul, and together they have two sons.
Ambassador Nain has a strong academic background, holding three master's degrees. He obtained a master’s degree in diplomacy and Trade from Monash University in Australia in 2001. Prior to that, he earned a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1991, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same university in 1996.
He began his diplomatic career on March 1, 1998, when he joined the Bangladesh Foreign Service. Between 1998 and 2004, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka as Assistant Secretary, focusing on areas such as African Affairs, Administration, Audit, Policy, and Organizational matters. From 2004 to 2009, he was posted to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, D.C., United States, where he served as First Secretary.
From 2009 to 2011, he was appointed Counsellor and Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul, South Korea. Upon his return to Dhaka, he served as Director of Personnel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2013. During 2013, he held dual roles as Deputy Director of the Foreign Service Academy and Director for Europe and South Asia.
In 2014, he became Director General of Consular and Welfare Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, a post he held until 2015. From 2015 to 2018, he served as Deputy High Commissioner at the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and from 2018 to July 2021, he continued his diplomatic service in London as Deputy High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission.
In July 2021, Ambassador Nain was appointed as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Algeria, with concurrent accreditation to Cameroon, Gabon, Mali, and Mauritania. Since March 2025, he has been serving as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Germany.
He is fluent in Bengali, his native language, and also speaks English fluently, with professional working proficiency in Korean.
History
Political relations between Germany and Bangladesh are amicable. In 1972 Germany was one of the first European countries to recognize Bangladesh following independence from Pakistan. Germany enjoys respect not only as a longstanding and reliable partner in development cooperation but also as a trading partner and an important member of the European Union.
