The Ambassador
Amb. Larbi LATROCH
Larbi Latroch is the Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Federal Republic of Germany. He assumed his diplomatic duties in Berlin in 2026 and represents Algeria in strengthening bilateral relations with Germany. Since taking office, Ambassador Latroch has participated in official diplomatic events, promoted cooperation with the Algerian community in Germany, and supported initiatives related to culture, education and economic relations. In July 2026, he hosted the celebration of Algeria’s Independence and Youth Day at the Embassy in Berlin, highlighting the importance of national unity, youth engagement and cooperation with the Algerian diaspora.
History
Political relations between Algeria and Germany have traditionally been positive and amicable. During the 1990’s when Islamist terrorism became a prominent occurrence in Algeria, Germany managed to maintain diplomatic relations with Algeria. In 2001 the Algerian President Bouteflika paid his first visit, which was also the first ever official visit of an Algerian President to Germany. The visit of Federal President Köhler in November 2007 was the first state visit by a German president to Algeria.
The two countries are also involved in economic, cultural and educational cooperation.
