On 9–10 October 2025, Der Divan – Das Arabische Kulturhaus in Berlin will host the Symposium on Cross-Cultural Artificial Intelligence, organised in cooperation with the Center for Humans & Machines at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Doha, Qatar.

The symposium addresses one of today’s most critical questions: How do different cultures perceive AI, and how can technology be developed to honor and reflect global cultural diversity? In a world of rapid technological change, ensuring that AI systems are culturally aware, inclusive, and respectful has become essential.

The program brings together experts from computer science, behavioral science, ethics, law and cultural studies, exploring the ethical, legal and technical challenges of designing AI that respects diverse values, languages, and traditions. Topics will include subjects like: Cultural Sensitivity in AI Design; Ethical AI Across Cultures; AI and Cultural Heritage and AI and Culture Wars.

By hosting the Symposium on Cross-Cultural AI, Der Divan and its partners reaffirm their commitment to fostering dialogue between technology, ethics, and cultural understanding, highlighting the vital role of inclusivity in the development of AI.
