To mark World Portuguese Language Day, the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin is organizing a cultural event dedicated to contemporary Lusophone poetry. The celebration will take place on Monday, May 5 at the Haus für Poesie, in cooperation with the Camões Institute and the host institution itself.

Officially recognized by UNESCO since 2019, this date highlights the global role of the Portuguese language, spoken by over 260 million people across nine countries. With a strong presence in the Southern Hemisphere, Portuguese serves as a bridge between cultures and peoples, as well as a medium for literary and artistic exchange on an international scale.

The event will feature three prominent poets from different Portuguese-speaking countries: Ricardo Domeneck (Brazil), Yara Monteiro (Angola), and Filipa Leal (Portugal). Each will read excerpts from their work and share reflections on identity, language, and literary creation. The reading will be moderated by journalist and translator Timo Berger, with simultaneous interpretation in Portuguese and German.

Among the featured works are the most recent publications by each author. Ricardo Domeneck, who resides in Berlin, is a recipient of the prestigious Jabuti Prize. Yara Monteiro brings a perspective from the Angolan diaspora, while Filipa Leal, known for her latest book Adrenalina, will represent contemporary Portuguese poetry. The event will showcase the richness and diversity of Portuguese-language literature.

With this initiative, the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin reaffirms its commitment to promoting Lusophone culture in Germany and encouraging intercultural dialogue through poetry. Tickets are available for €8.65 / €5.65 on the official event website: tickettoaster.de.
