The Berlinale’s European Film Market 2025 Presents Spain as the “Country in Focus”
Spanish film and media industry on the Spotlight
February 06th, 2025The 2025 European Film Market (EFM) of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) has chosen Spain as its "Country in Focus."
This designation will be officially presented during the 2025 edition of the EFM, which will take place from February 13 to 19, 2025, as part of the 75th Berlinale. The initiative aims to promote Spanish filmmakers and creators on an international stage while fostering new export opportunities for the Spanish film industry.
Spanish Minister of Culture Ernest Utrasun stated: “The European Film Market is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful platforms for European cinematography and Spain being a ‘Country in Focus’ will allow us to make visible the enormous talent of the Spanish industry in all its areas: creation, production, distribution and the global positioning of our cinema.”
Launched in 2017, the “Country in Focus” programme aims to showcase the film scene of a specific country or region, and offers numerous opportunities for dialogue with producers, distributors, investors and film industry experts. During the Spanish Producers Spotlight, 10 selected Spanish producers will present their companies and their future projects.
During this year’s Berlinale Series Market, on February 17th, Spain’s series production will be highlighted during a comprehensive programme of screenings and talks.
Director Tanja Meissner praised Spain’s strong industry infrastructure, claiming that “Spanish film and media industry has solidified its reputation and global acclaim to become a European powerhouse”.
