From October 15 to 19, 2025, the Austrian Cultural Forum Madrid, representing the Embassy of Austria in Spain, presented Volumens – Programa de Austria at the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) in Valencia. The initiative brought to Spain an impressive selection of interactive installations, sound-based artworks, and experimental projects by students of the Interface Cultures master’s program at the University of Art and Design Linz.

The exhibition was part of the wider Volumens Festival, one of Spain’s leading gatherings at the intersection of digital art, electronic sound, and cultural innovation. Austria’s contribution was not only artistic but also diplomatic — a statement of how creativity and technology can become instruments of international understanding.

Through immersive, interactive works that invited visitors to question the boundaries between the physical and the digital, the Austrian section highlighted the country’s longstanding reputation for artistic experimentation. The projects ranged from sound environments that responded to human movement to data-based visual compositions exploring urban memory and environmental change. Each installation reflected a shared vision of art as research — and research as a form of dialogue across cultures.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Verena Kraus, Cultural Attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Spain, emphasized that “digital culture is one of the most dynamic areas of cultural diplomacy today — it connects our societies through curiosity, creativity, and shared innovation.” Her words resonated with the audience of artists, curators, and cultural policymakers gathered at the CCCC, underlining the growing relevance of interdisciplinary exchange between Austria and Spain.

The collaboration between the Austrian Cultural Forum Madrid and the Volumens Festival also extended beyond the exhibition itself. Workshops and artist talks allowed Spanish and Austrian creators to engage in direct exchange, while representatives from the University of Art and Design Linz met with counterparts from Spanish art schools to discuss future partnerships.

By presenting Volumens – Programa de Austria, the Austrian Cultural Forum Madrid reaffirmed its role as a hub of cultural diplomacy — a space where artistic experimentation becomes a shared European language. In a world increasingly shaped by technology, this program demonstrated how Austria continues to combine innovation with dialogue, reinforcing its position at the forefront of digital culture and international collaboration.
