Trade, education, and investment ties strengthened through public–private engagement
April 02nd, 2026The Royal Thai Embassy in London convened the second roundtable meeting with the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) on 18 March 2026, reinforcing efforts to deepen Thailand–UK economic cooperation. Co-chaired by Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra, the meeting brought together representatives from Thailand’s “Team Thailand” economic network in Europe and key stakeholders from the UK private sector, reflecting a coordinated approach to advancing bilateral trade and investment.
The Thai delegation included senior officials responsible for economic, financial, customs, education, investment, and science and technology portfolios across multiple European postings, demonstrating an integrated diplomatic framework. On the UK side, the BCCT delegation was led by Pinyapa Somphong and included representatives from major organizations such as Shell, University of Reading, University of Leicester, British Council, and Pearson, among others. The presence of institutions linked to the UK–ASEAN Business Council and the British Chamber of Commerce in London further situated the discussions within broader regional and multilateral business networks.
Deliberations focused on enhancing trade and investment flows, addressing opportunities and challenges in doing business in Thailand, and strengthening cooperation in education. Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging leading UK academic institutions to expand their presence in Thailand, supporting the country’s long-term human capital development and innovation ecosystem. This aligns with the Embassy’s designation of 2026 as the “Year of Thai-UK Education Partnership,” reflecting a strategic effort to integrate education with economic diplomacy and sustainable growth objectives.
Following the roundtable, the Embassy hosted a networking reception attended by approximately 100 Thai and British business leaders and entrepreneurs. The event provided an informal platform to deepen connections, explore commercial opportunities, and reinforce partnerships across sectors. Such engagements exemplify economic diplomacy in practice, where government and private sector collaboration drives tangible outcomes in trade and investment. (Conclusion)

By linking education, business, and innovation, Thailand and the United Kingdom are building a multidimensional partnership that extends beyond traditional economic ties. This approach enhances resilience and adaptability in a rapidly evolving global economy.
In conclusion, the initiative highlights Thailand’s proactive strategy to strengthen its economic relationship with the United Kingdom through coordinated diplomatic and business engagement. The continued development of these platforms signals a long-term commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, with significant implications for trade, investment, and knowledge exchange in the years ahead.
