Thailand–UK Academic Cooperation Advances Through Strategic University Engagement

The Royal Thai Embassy in London hosted a high-level academic engagement on 18 March 2026, bringing together senior representatives from Thailand and the United Kingdom to advance bilateral cooperation in higher education. Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra welcomed a delegation from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), alongside counterparts from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), underscoring the growing importance of academic diplomacy in strengthening international partnerships.
The KMUTT delegation was led by Yongyuth Yuthavong, Chairman of the KMUTT University Council, who was congratulated by the Ambassador on receiving an honorary doctorate in sciences from QMUL. The meeting also included senior academic leaders such as Associate Professor Dr. Tawich Pulngern and representatives from QMUL, including Professor Alex Clark and Associate Professor Dr. Chinnapat Panwisawas. Discussions focused on expanding institutional collaboration, particularly through joint academic programmes in engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as faculty and student exchanges and collaborative research initiatives.
The emphasis on engineering reflects its strategic role in supporting Thailand’s future-oriented industries, including advanced manufacturing and technology-driven sectors. By aligning academic cooperation with national development priorities, both countries are situating their partnership within broader economic and innovation frameworks.
