The 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) featured the participation of H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Thai Ambassador in Vienna and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in Vienna. The session provided an opportunity for Thailand’s representative to reaffirm the country’s commitment to advancing, in cooperation with UNIDO, the agenda of inclusive and sustainable industrial development worldwide.

With the aim of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) seeks to reduce poverty, enhance economic competitiveness, and ensure environmental sustainability through industrial growth within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In that regard, UNIDO launched the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) as a framework for enabling cooperation between Thailand and UNIDO. Its establishment has been welcomed by Ambassador Hongtong, as it aligns with Thailand’s current development priorities, such as digital transformation, workforce development, and Bio-Circular-Green transformation.

As the PCP could allow Thailand to leverage additional investment in selected priority sectors and enhance its job creation potential and export potential, Ambassador Hongtong used the session to advocate for increased technical cooperation and tailored support from UNIDO in addressing the development needs of middle-income countries.

The session reflected Thailand’s supports for UNIDO’s efforts to advance circular economy pathways, particularly with the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, and called on UNIDO to strengthen collaboration on technology transfer, capacity building, and policy support towards the acceleration of transition to net-zero industries.
