Strings Across Borders: Spain at Forum Gitarre Wien 2025
Engaging citizens through interactive dialogue and shared European identity
August 19th, 2025This August, the Spanish Embassy in Vienna reaffirms its commitment to cultural diplomacy by supporting the renowned Forum Gitarre Wien 2025. Through music, Spain strengthens its cultural ties with Austria and Europe, showcasing artistic excellence while building bridges of dialogue and shared heritage.
The Forum Gitarre Wien is one of Europe’s most respected platforms for classical guitar, uniting performers, educators, and enthusiasts from across the continent. With the active support of the Spanish Embassy, the festival highlights the enduring influence of Spanish musical tradition while encouraging cultural exchange at an international level.
Two Spanish artists stand at the forefront of this year’s program. On 22 August, guitarist Rebeca Santiago will grace the opening concert at the Wiener Konzerthaus / Schubertsaal. Later, on 25 August, acclaimed virtuosa Margarita Escarpa will perform at the MUK Theater, in collaboration with Austria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their participation not only celebrates Spain’s world-class musicianship but also embodies the role of cultural diplomacy in connecting audiences across languages and histories.
The Embassy’s involvement in the festival reflects a broader European vision: to nurture understanding and cooperation through shared cultural experiences. Classical guitar—rooted in Spain’s artistic legacy yet embraced worldwide—becomes a symbol of dialogue, reinforcing the idea that diplomacy is not confined to negotiation tables, but also thrives in concert halls where art speaks universally.
By supporting Forum Gitarre Wien 2025, the Spanish Embassy in Vienna demonstrates how cultural diplomacy turns music into a bridge between nations. The presence of Spanish talent enriches Europe’s artistic landscape and strengthens Spain’s role as a key contributor to cultural exchange, proving once more that art and diplomacy are harmonious partners in building a shared future.
