On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK) in Dahlem, Berlin, hosted a live culinary demonstration titled Olivenöl und Pa amb Tomàquet. The event celebrated Spanish and Mediterranean gastronomy through one of Catalonia’s most iconic traditional dishes.

The workshop began at 16:30 and focused on preparing pa amb tomàquet — rustic bread rubbed with ripe tomato and drizzled with high-quality olive oil. Guests were introduced to the cultural significance of the dish, which represents simplicity, sustainability, and regional identity within the broader Mediterranean diet.

Cultural experts guided attendees through the culinary process, while also discussing the historical and symbolic role of olive oil and bread in both everyday Spanish life and European food culture. The event was held in conjunction with the MEK’s ongoing focus on regional traditions across Europe, often in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutes.

This hands-on session not only introduced Berlin audiences to authentic Spanish flavors, but also served as a form of cultural diplomacy, highlighting shared values through food, heritage, and dialogue.
