Southeast Asia Student Summit 2025: Breaking Barriers, Building Futures
Indonesian and Malaysian Embassies in Berlin support youth dialogue on innovation, gender equality, and diaspora integration
August 14th, 2025The Southeast Asia Student Summit 2025 successfully took place on June 26 at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Berlin, bringing together over 40 students from across Southeast Asia. Organized by Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia (PPI) Jerman, the Malaysia-German Students’ Society (MGSS), Singapore Students’ Association of Germany, as well as PPI Halle and PPI Berlin-Brandenburg, the summit received full support from both the Indonesian and Malaysian Embassies in Berlin.
On 26 July 2025, the Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin actively participated in the Southeast Asia Student Summit 2025. The summit was organised through a collaborative effort involving the Malaysian Embassy, Indonesian Embassy, and student societies from Malaysia (MGSS) and Indonesia (PPI Jerman), reinforcing the commitment of both countries to support youth-led initiatives and intercultural dialogue.
The summit opened with welcoming remarks highlighting the historical significance of the Bandung Conference in 1955, emphasizing the spirit of unity and collaboration. Embassy representatives from Indonesia and Malaysia stressed the importance of building bridges among Southeast Asian youth, inspiring participants to foster regional connections and shared visions.
Discussions covered innovative approaches to Smart Cities, inclusive gender policies, and diaspora integration in Germany. Experts from GIZ and Nanyang Technological University shared practical insights, while panels addressed challenges for youth in professional and civic spaces. Students exchanged experiences and explored solutions for promoting social equity, educational opportunities, and sustainable innovation.
In group sessions, participants presented actionable strategies to overcome role-based challenges, demonstrating critical thinking and collaborative skills. The summit not only strengthened networks among Southeast Asian students in Germany but also reinforced the role of embassies in supporting youth-led initiatives and intercultural dialogue.
The organizers anticipate an even larger participation in the next edition, Southeast Asia Student Summit 2026, continuing the mission to break barriers and build future opportunities for students across the region.
