On September 25, 2024, the South African Embassy in Berlin and the German South Africa Forum (DESAFOR) co-hosted a Heritage Day seminar themed “Mission accomplished or unfinished business – South Africa’s journey and future perspectives 30 years after Apartheid.” The evening’s keynote address, delivered by former Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs, titled “It was a long way to freedom, but there are still many miles to walk,” explored South Africa's achievements and remaining challenges.

A panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Maxine Rubin, featured young South African professionals residing in Germany, including Malebo Sephodi, Bongani Justice Makhubela, and Lutho Kote, alongside Sachs. The panel engaged in a dynamic dialogue on the experiences and aspirations of the post-apartheid generation, addressing their expectations and the societal shifts since the end of Apartheid.

The event closed with an interview with Ambassador Stone Sizani, who shared insights on the ongoing relationship between South Africa and Germany, emphasizing the countries’ collaborative future. This meaningful exchange honored Heritage Day by bridging reflections on South Africa’s past with aspirations for its future.
