The Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin featured African music with performances by the MIAGI Orchestra and the Footprint Trio.

The festival, held at the Konzerthaus Berlin, is a three-day event focused on non-European musical traditions.

The MIAGI Orchestra, a festival regular, performed on August 25, 2024.

MIAGI is short for "Music Is A Great Investment” which relates to the orchestra’s goal of bringing young people together through music.

What distinguishes MIAGI is the diverse background of its musicians which allows the orchestra to play a wide range of styles, including classical, jazz, traditional African music, and contemporary South African pieces.

This year's program, “Searching for the African Footprint,” features a jazz band and a percussion ensemble, combining European, American, and African compositions.

The Footprint Trio, which performed on August 24, 2024, was formed through one of MIAGI’s programs of brining musicians together.

The trio includes Viwe Mkizwana, Tshepo Tsotetsi, and Musa Mdluli, who have been with MIAGI for over a decade.

Their performances explore different influences on South African music and strive to bring African sounds to a global audience.
