Singapore Embassy in Germany Kicks Off National Day Celebrations
Communities across Berlin, Augsburg, and Stuttgart unite ahead of Singapore’s 60th anniversary
August 26th, 2025The Embassy of Singapore in Berlin has marked the lead-up to Singapore’s 60th National Day with a series of vibrant community celebrations across Germany. Held throughout July in Berlin-Brandenburg, Augsburg, and Stuttgart, the gatherings highlighted the strong bonds between Singaporeans abroad and their German friends, combining food, culture, and fellowship in anticipation of the milestone anniversary on 9 August.
In Berlin-Brandenburg, Singapore’s Ambassador Lawrence Bay joined the community for a warm and convivial afternoon filled with Southeast Asian comfort food. The event created a welcoming atmosphere where familiar faces reconnected and newcomers found a sense of home, underscoring the embassy’s ongoing efforts to support its diaspora across Germany.
The celebrations in Augsburg, Bavaria, brought together around 100 participants under the theme “SG60 in Bayern.” The lively program blended traditional German and Southeast Asian performances, reflecting the cultural exchange that defines Singapore’s global outlook. The event was attended by Second Secretary Max, who shared in the festivities and praised the community’s commitment to keeping Singaporean traditions alive while embracing local culture.
In Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, approximately 70 Singaporeans gathered for their annual National Day celebration. The afternoon featured home-cooked favorites, fun quiz games, and a symbolic birthday cake for Singapore. Second Secretary Sean represented the Embassy at the event, emphasizing the importance of unity and cultural pride for Singaporeans living abroad.
With three states hosting celebrations, the Embassy of Singapore succeeded in creating a shared spirit of community and national pride across Germany. These events not only strengthened ties within the diaspora but also reinforced Singapore’s cultural diplomacy, showcasing how Singaporeans remain connected to their homeland while building meaningful relationships abroad. As Singapore prepares to celebrate six decades of independence on 9 August, its embassy in Berlin has already set the tone with celebrations rooted in food, friendship, and festivity.
