The Philippine Embassy in Germany is promoting an event to increase knowledge about the cultural differences in Berlin compared to the Philippines. The event, which took place on the 11th of September, will educate Philippine nationals who are currently residing in Berlin to establish a thorough knowledge of the cultural differences.

The reason the Philippine Embassy is promoting the event is to achieve a kind of cultural exchange and to adapt Philippine nationals, as the laws and norms concerning relationships differ considerably between the two countries. The event will include information about the laws concerning divorce in Germany, and how they differ from in the Philippines. There will also be information about the norms and laws regarding child custody in case of divorce, as well as separation. This will help spouses to better know their rights, should they utilise Germany’s laws on the matter. Normalising and educating about different norms may help foreign nationals to feel secure in a socially different environment.

Other than being informative the event also helps socialising Philippine people living in Berlin. This can also help them feel more comfortable in Germany, which will decrease social differences. The event is held in a church, which holds cultural importance for Philippine people and will serve as a neutral environment.
