Philippine Embassy in Berlin promotes Children's Literature at the First International Children's Book Fair in Berlin
The fair brought together embassies and publishers to promote intercultural dialogue
April 24th, 2025The Philippine Embassy participated as an exhibitor in the first International Children's Book Fair held at the Divan Arabic Culture House from April 11 to 13. The multicultural event brought together publishers, cultural institutions and diplomatic missions from all over the world, showcasing books in over 20 languages to promote storytelling and cultural exchange for young audiences.
Organised by the Divan Arabic Culture House - known for hosting the annual Arabic Book Fair in Berlin - this inaugural children's book fair extended its programme to children under the theme "The Future is Us", a declaration of the power of literature to build more inclusive societies. In his opening speech, H.E. Abdalla Al Hamar, Ambassador of the State of Qatar and Chairman of the Divan Advisory Board, emphasised that "books allow children to dream without borders" and called for a future of empathy and intercultural understanding.
Represented by Cultural Attaché Catherine Ramintas and Ms Mylah Ann Rubio, the Philippine Embassy presented a curated selection of Filipino children's books, offering a window into the richness of Filipino storytelling and contemporary literature for young readers. The participation underscores the Embassy's continued commitment to cultural promotion in Germany, particularly in anticipation of the Philippines' role as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2025.
The Children's Book Fair is part of a broader cultural diplomacy strategy that aims to promote inclusive, multilingual and globally engaged dialogue through literature and youth-focused initiatives.
