Philippine Embassy in Berlin Marks 127th Independence Anniversary
Celebration highlights strong bilateral ties and cultural milestones
August 15th, 2025The Philippine Embassy in Berlin hosted a reception at the Waldorf Astoria on 2 July 2025 to commemorate the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood. The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, German government officials, business leaders, NGOs, and academics.
The reception was attended by Frank Hartmann, Director General for Asia and the Pacific at the German Federal Foreign Office, and Delia D. Albert, former Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to Germany. In her remarks, Ambassador Irene Susan B. Natividad emphasized the Philippines–Germany bilateral partnership, now in its 70th year, with growing cooperation in regional security, climate action, renewable energy, trade, agriculture, labor mobility, science and technology, culture, and tourism.
Ambassador Natividad also announced the Philippines’ role as Guest of Honor Country at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, to be held in October. Under the theme “The Imagination Peoples the Air”, the Philippine Pavilion will showcase literature and cultural narratives from across the country 's 7,641 islands.
Director General Hartmann congratulated the Philippines on its independence anniversary and highlighted 2025 as “a very active political year” in the countries’ relations, noting the “close and vibrant partnership” shared by both nations.
Guests enjoyed a selection of Filipino cuisine, including chicken adobo and buchi, along with cocktails featuring Filipino rum and ube liqueur.
