Prior to his current appointment, Rimbink Pato was first elected to the 9th National Parliament for the Wapenamanda Open Electorate seat in the 2012 General Elections as a United Party candidate. He was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immingration in the O’Neill-Dion cabinet following formation of government in August 2012. In August 2017, Rimbink Pato was re-elected to the 10th National Parliament for the same seat as a United Party Candidate. He was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade in the O'Neill-Abel cabinet.

Rimbink Pato is a Christian-Lutheran.He graduated with a Bachelor in Law Degree from the University of Papua New Guinea in 1986, then attended Legal Training Institute. Prior to his political career, Rimbink Pato was employed by Steeles Lawyers, then founded his own Practice, Pato Lawyers.

He was awarded the winner of PNG Short Story Writing and Poetry Competition sponsored by institute of PNG Studies. Furthermore, he was awarded an Order of British Empire (OBE) by the Queen of the Common Wealth, Queen Elizabeth the Second in recognition of Services to Community and Law.

As Minister, Rimbink Pato is interested in establishing much needed services, peace, effective Law and Order and equal wealth distribution in his country.
