Official Visit of President Gabriel Boric to Germany
Strengthening Ties: Chile and Germany Forge Strategic Partnerships
August 07th, 2024President Gabriel Boric embarked on an intensive official visit to Germany from June 12 to June 14, accompanied by a delegation comprising cabinet representatives, parliamentarians, academics, business leaders, and scientists. The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen their bilateral relations and tackle global challenges together.
During his visit, President Boric held a significant meeting with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The discussions covered a range of pivotal topics, including human rights, lithium cooperation, scientific collaboration, renewable energy, sustainable technology, and innovation. This dialogue aimed at reinforcing the cooperative framework between Chile and Germany.
The delegation also took part in the economic forum titled "Chile-Germany: Strategic Partners for Global Challenges," where several agreements were signed. These accords are designed to foster a fairer and more sustainable development model, enhance value-added production, stimulate productive linkages, and create new employment opportunities.
President Boric's itinerary included a visit to the Federal Presidency of Germany, where he engaged in discussions with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. He also met with Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder to explore new investment opportunities in science, technology, energy transition, and green hydrogen.
Among the various engagements, President Boric, alongside Ambassador Magdalena Atria, participated in the Chile-Germany Innovation Summit. He also engaged with political foundations Friedrich-Ebert and Heinrich Böll, held dialogues with the European Southern Observatory (ESO), met representatives of the Chilean community in Germany, and visited the Helmholtz Centre Berlin-Adlershof, where a significant agreement was signed.
This official visit not only highlighted the strategic partnership between Chile and Germany but also paved the way for future collaborations in key areas of mutual interest, reinforcing the longstanding ties between the two nations.
