The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin will host a gala evening on 14 July 2016, in order to raise funds for the noble work of the Bahnhofsmission.

The United Nations declared Nelson Mandela’s birthday in July as International Nelson Mandela Day in 2009, inspired by his call for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he told them: “it is in your hands now”.  People and groups across the world have heeded the call to build a lasting movement that will serve their communities in their different areas of need.

Together with various partners, the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin will host a gala on the evening of 14 July 2016 starting at 7pm, at Mövenpick Hotel Berlin in order to raise funds for the noble work of the Bahnhofsmission.

The Bahnhofsmission is a German aid organisation with posts at more than a hundred railway stations. With more than 2.000 full-time and voluntary staff, the Bahnhofsmission’s drop-in centers which are located in key areas of the city are instrumental in assisting those in need, incuding homeless and displaced people living in Berlin.

Moreover, a portion of the proceeds will also be directed to aid the work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

The program includes entertainment with celebrities and renowned artists as well as a typical South African dinner and exquisite South African wines. The charity auction, to be moderated by a renowned celebrity, will provide the evening’s highlight.
