Minister Rodrigez urges for the Conservation of Indigenous Languages

The Foreign Minister of Bolivia delivered a speech to promote the conservation of indigenous languages

This year, the United Nations launched the International Year of Indigenous Languages at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris at the 28th of January. The International Year of Indigenous Languages was approved by the general assembly of the United Nations in 2019, an initiative that the Plurinational State of Bolivia has promoted since 2016.

The goal of the International Year of Indigenous Languages is to draw attention to the loss of indigenous languages and the need to conserve, promote and revitalize them around the world. the conference in Paris was attended by indigenous people from around to create a forum for indigenous people to share knowledge and ways to conserve indigenous languages around the world.

Minister Rodrigez, delivered his speech in Quechua, one of the indigenous languages recognized in the constitution of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. In his speech he urged indigenous people and the international community to protect and conserve indigenous languages as well as invited indigenous people to participate in spaces that allow for the sharing and protection of indigenous languages.
