More than 100 pieces are being exposed, thanks to the collaboration of various institutions, such as the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the National Gallery di Lon-dra and the British Museum

The exhibition “Mantegna and Bellini, Masters of Renaissance” is the first to ever show the two artists together, with the aim of leading the visitors to compare and contrast their art. This exhibition marks a historical moment, since the masterpiece “Il Doge Leonardo Loredan” (1501/1502) had never left the National Gallery in London before, and this is the first time it can be admired outside of the British capital.

Although the exhibition is the first to host the pieces of the two artists at once, the link between Mantegna and Bellini is nonetheless quite significant. As a matter of fact, Bellini was highly influenced by Mantegna, as he admired profoundly his work and Mantegna was also married to Bellini’s daughter, Nicolasia. Moreover, Mantegna was also influenced in his work by Bellini, thus the admiration was reciprocal. Consequently, the two began collaborating and this collaboration lasted for ten years. Therefore, the decision of the organizer of the exhibition in Berlin, who decided to exhibit the two artists together, is a logical one, as it has led the numerous visitors to learn more about he history behind the two artists’ collaboration, and it has highlighted the similarities between their works.
