Mandela Day Fundraising Gala
On July 14, the embassy of South Africa in Berlin will organize a gala to raise fundS for the Bahnofsmission and the Mandela Foundation
May 17th, 2016In 2009 the United Nations declared that Nelson Mandela’s birthdate will be the Nelson Mandela day throughout the world. More than a celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy, the Nelson Mandela Day is a call to address the world’s social injustices. The Embassy of South Africa in Berlin, touched by the fate of the homeless and displaced in Berlin, organizes an event to help them.
The gala will occur on July 14th at the Mövenpick Hotel in Berlin. The funds will be directed to the Bahnofsmission and to the Mandela Foundation. The main beneficiary of the fundraising will be the Bahnofsmission, a German aid organization that assists people in need, in particular the homeless and the displaced. The name of the organization comes from the places it mainly operates: hundreds of railway stations in all Germany. The other beneficiary will be the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The Foundation has been established in 1999 by Nelson Mandela after he ceased being President of South Africa. The Foundation promotes the vision of its founder of freedom and equality for all.
The gala evening in the Mövenpick Hotel will include a typical South African dinner along with South African wines, the assistance will be entertained by famous artists and stars. The highlight of the evening will be the charity auction.
To attend the fundraising gala, ticket reservations are available (150,00€ per person and possibility to reserve an entire table for 12 people) by contacting Ms Grobler (tel.: 030 220 73128, Email GroblerC@dirco.gov.za) and Ms Samlenski (tel.: 030 220 73161, Email SamlenskiC@dirco.gov.za).
