“MAMA – Mother Nature” at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Berlin
An International Art Exhibition Uniting 54 Artists from 31 Countries in a Call for Ecological Awareness
October 24th, 2025On 14 October, the international art exhibition “MAMA – Mother Nature” opened at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Berlin. The opening ceremony was attended by Arzu Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of the public association IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action).
Jointly organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IDEA, and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany, the exhibition celebrates the connection between humanity and nature through the works of 54 artists from 31 countries. In his speech, Ambassador Nasimi Aghayev emphasized the global relevance of the project, noting that in times of environmental crisis, such cultural collaborations highlight the power of unity in addressing climate challenges.
Founder Leyla Aliyeva explained that MAMA – Mother Nature originated in Baku and has since been presented in Bahrain, London, Rome, and Tbilisi, gathering artists who express a shared desire to protect the planet. She drew attention to the visible effects of climate change, such as the shrinking of the Caspian Sea and the endangerment of species like the Caspian seal and sturgeon.
Aliyeva also outlined IDEA’s environmental projects, including the planting of over one million trees worldwide, the protection of endangered species, environmental education programs, and the “One Drop” water conservation initiative.
The exhibition additionally features a tribute to Azerbaijani sculptor Samir Kachayev (1994–2016), who died during the April battles, honoring his artistic legacy and love for his homeland.
First presented in November 2024 at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku as part of COP29, MAMA – Mother Nature presents nature as a living, healing force. Through installations, paintings, and multimedia works, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on humanity’s deep relationship with the natural world and the shared responsibility to preserve it.
