Magaliesberg Children's Choir Joins Berlin’s Christmas Celebration at Apostel-Paulus-Kirche
A Heartwarming Advent Concert Featuring South African Voices and Classical Christmas Music
December 12th, 2024This December, Berlin audiences are in for a special treat as the Magaliesberg Children's Choir from South Africa takes the stage for a magical Advent concert. On the 4th Sunday of Advent, the choir will perform in the historic Apostel-Paulus-Kirche Schöneberg, one of the city's most beautiful churches. The choir will be joined by the Young Choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Berlin Chamber Symphony, making this an unforgettable holiday event for the whole family.
The concert will be a celebration of both African musical heritage and Western classical traditions. The highlight of the evening will be a performance of the timeless Christmas work "Fantasia on Christmas Carols" by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. First composed in 1912, Vaughan Williams’ piece is a collection of southern English folk songs that captures the spirit of Christmas with its hauntingly beautiful melodies. Under the direction of Hannelie van Sittert (Magaliesberg Children’s Choir) and Christian Lindhorst (Young Choir of the Deutsche Oper), the performance promises to be an inspiring and heartwarming experience.
This concert offers an opportunity to pause from the busy holiday season and reflect on the joy of music. The collaboration of the Magaliesberg Children's Choir, the Young Choir of the Deutsche Oper, and the Berlin Chamber Symphony is a rare fusion of musical traditions from across the world. With a performance also featuring baritone Tadeusz Milewski and conducted by Jürgen Bruns, it is the perfect way to embrace the Christmas spirit in Berlin.
