On February 11, 2023, a Malagasy cultural event was organized by the SAKAIZA Association in collaboration with the City of Vienna Integration and Diversity (MA17), with the support of the Malagasy community in Austria.

The Malagasy community and the organisation SAKAIZA showcased the Malagasy culture at this event with a variety of Malagasy meals, traditional dances, a fashion show, and Malagasy handcrafts that were raffled off as prizes provided by various sponsors, including Ethiopian Airlines, Schani Hotel, the Leopold Museum, the Museum of Military History, and fashion designer Ronald Lanor.

Hanta Ramahazosoa, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar in Berlin, David Beraha, representative of the City of Vienna Integration and Diversity, and Kira Hofenstock, District Councillor for the 23rd District, served as the event’s honorary guests.

The purpose of the event was to display what a ‘’Fihavanana Malagasy’’ looks like. Fihavanana is a Malagasy term for kinship, friendship, goodwill amongst living things- both physical and spiritual. Given how the term is used differently in Malagasy society, the literal translation is challenging to convey. The word ‘’hava’’ originally meant ‘’kin’’, and Malagasy culture is full of proverbs related to Fihavanana.
