Los Nuevos Alemanes premieres in Berlin
A documentary on Latin American cultural presence and identity in Germany

The Babylon Kino in Berlin hosted the world premiere of Los Nuevos Alemanes, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 19:30. A second screening followed on Monday, September 1, at 20:00. Presented in Spanish and German with English subtitles, the 75-minute documentary offers a powerful exploration of the contributions and evolving identities of the Latin American community in Germany.
At the heart of the film is Luis Meneses, a Peruvian cultural manager who has dedicated over three decades in Berlin to the promotion of Latin American arts. Through his perspective, the documentary also reveals the Cuban heritage of German entertainer Roberto Blanco, while highlighting the political significance of Germán Meneses, the only German parliamentarian born in Latin America, to whom the film pays posthumous tribute.
Adding a research-based lens, economist Dr. Wido Geis-Thöne contributes insights from his extensive studies on Latin Americans in Germany, underscoring their strong performance in the labor market, high educational attainment, and internal diversity. Together, these narratives trace the contours of what it means to be an artist, cultural advocate, or political actor shaping a new kind of German identity.
By weaving personal stories with broader cultural and social dynamics, Los Nuevos Alemanes offers German and international audiences a unique window into the emergence of hybrid identities in contemporary Germany, while honoring the legacies of those who have bridged continents through art, culture, and political commitment.
