The European Union - Latin American and Caribbean Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation) is a partnership between governments and heads of state from Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean, formed in 2010. This foundation focuses on collaboration, strengthening intra-continental relations and engaging civil society in these diplomatic and cross-cultural efforts. Their work engages with both the EU and Community of Latin America States (CELAC). Recently transformed into an official international organization in 2016, the work of the EU-LAC Foundation has continued its work in promoting Latin American cultural values and products in Europe.

The most inspiring recent example is the Lateinamerika Herbst Festival, or Latin American Fall Festival, which began in 2014. Each year, CELAC embassies and consulates contribute engage in cultural exchange through a diverse set of events geared towards prompting inter-cultural dialogue between Europeans and Latin Americans.

This year is especially interesting due to the fact that EU-LAC is coordinating all activities of the festival for the first time, under the theme ‘Migrants and Travelers.” Choosing a relevant topic for today’s current events is bound to spark interesting and insightful conversations about immigration, integration and building community through cultural exchange.

The EU-LAC Foundation is currently hosting an open-call for individuals to design this year’s poster for the festival in September; applicants must be nationals of one of the 61 EU-LAC member states between the ages of 18-25. More information can be found on the EU-LAC website.
