Minister of Foreign Affairs Beibut Atamkulov brings with him a wealth of more than 30 years of experience in business, government and diplomatic service.

In 1986, he graduated from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. In 2000, he graduated from St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, and holds the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.

He began his career in 1985 as a smelter of the Copper Smelting Factory of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Plant named after A. Zavenyagin.

In 1986-1991, Beibut Atamkulov worked as a smelter, a shift foreman, a senior foreman, a leading engineer, and a deputy head of the department at the Chimkent Lead Plant.

In 1991-1995, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of Kazakhstan as chief specialist, director of Chermetexport of the Republican Foreign Economic Enterprise Kazmetallexport, and later First Deputy Director General of the foreign trade company Kazakhstan Sauda.

In 1995-1996, Beibut Atamkulov worked as First Deputy Director General of the Karaganda Metallurgical Plant in Temirtau.

In 1996-2006, he was engaged in private entrepreneurship.

In 2006-2007, Beibut Atamkulov served as Counsellor and later Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia (Moscow).

In 2007-2008, he served as Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kazakhstan in Iran (Tehran).

In 2008-2010, he served as Consul General of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt am Main in Germany.

From 2010 to 2012, Beibut Atamkulov served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Malaysia with concurrent accreditation to the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.

In 2012-2014, he returned to Kazakhstan and served as Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and New Technology. In 2014-2015, he served as Executive Secretary of the Ministry for Investment and Development.

In 2015-2016, Beibut Atamkulov served as Akim (Governor) of the South Kazakhstan Oblast.

In 2016, President Nursultan Nazarbayev appointed him the head of the newly created Ministry of Defence and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan.

On December 26, 2018, by the presidential decree, Beibut Atamkulov was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

He speaks Kazakh, Russian and English.
