From June 19 to July 21, 2025, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Berlin is hosting “Identità oltre confine” (“Identity Beyond Borders”), the first stage of a touring exhibition drawn from Italy’s prestigious Farnesina Collection. Curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini, the show features contemporary Italian artworks that explore themes of identity, the human-nature relationship, and sustainability.

The exhibition inaugurates a multi-city tour: after Berlin, it will travel to Vilnius and Malta. It marks the 25th anniversary of the Farnesina Collection and signals Italy’s commitment to cultural diplomacy by bringing national art abroad to engage actively in foreign cultural spaces.

Works are organized into three thematic sections—“Geographies of Detachment,” “Unstable Ecologies,” and “Roots of Resistance”—featuring both renowned and emerging women artists from Italy, such as Silvia Camporesi, Maria Lai, Elena Bellantoni, and Tomaso Binga. These pieces unpack our complex relationship with the natural world, while also offering site-specific installations that dialogue directly with Berlin’s post-wall context.

A rich public program accompanies the exhibition, including guided tours, artist talks, and educational sessions—details of which are available in the event section of the IIC Berlin website.

This initiative demonstrates how the Istituto Italiano functions as an active diplomatic actor—using art to foster cross-border reflection and sustainable cultural relations in the heart of Europe’s capital. Berlin provides a fitting backdrop: a city defined by transformation and reflexive identity.
