The Embassy of Hungary in London has announced the reintroduction of the Hungarian ECL language examination in the British capital starting from summer 2026, marking a renewed effort to support language certification and cultural engagement among the Hungarian diaspora and international learners.

According to an official statement published by the Embassy of Hungary in London, candidates will once again have the opportunity to take the ECL (European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages) exam locally. The certification evaluates comprehensive language proficiency, including writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills, in line with European standards.

This development forms part of Hungary’s broader cultural diplomacy framework, which aims to strengthen connections with diaspora communities while also encouraging interest in Hungarian language and culture among international audiences. By re-establishing examination opportunities in London, the embassy facilitates access to recognized qualifications without requiring travel to Hungary.

In a video accompanying the announcement, Ambassador Ferenc Kumin introduced the examination venue and underlined the role of institutional cooperation in sustaining language education abroad. The exams are scheduled to take place twice annually, in June and November, ensuring regular access for prospective candidates.

The ECL system is implemented in collaboration with accredited partners, including the Liszt Institute, which plays a key role in promoting Hungarian culture and language worldwide. The reinstatement of the exam in London is expected to support both heritage speakers and new learners seeking formal certification.

Additional information on registration procedures and requirements will be communicated through official embassy platforms and partner institutions in due course.
