Humboldt University and NYU Mark 30 Years of Academic Exchange in Berlin

Humboldt University and New York University, will mark three decades of academic cooperation with a celebratory event on May 7, 2026, at Humboldt’s main building on Unter den Linden. The anniversary, titled “30 Years of HU x NYU,” brings together researchers, doctoral candidates, and university leadership to reflect on a partnership that began in 1995 and was formally expanded into a strategic collaboration in 2025.

The event focuses on how academic cooperation functions in practice across institutions and countries. Researchers involved in joint projects will present their work and outline how international exchange has shaped their research trajectories. These accounts place emphasis on the practical dimension of collaboration: how projects are initiated, developed, and transformed through cross-border academic networks.

Alongside individual project presentations, the program includes a retrospective on the evolution of the partnership over the past 30 years, as well as an overview of upcoming initiatives and funding opportunities designed to support future cooperation. The format combines academic discussion with institutional reflection, positioning the anniversary as both a review of past achievements and a framework for future development.

The event will feature contributions from representatives of both universities, including Humboldt University President Julia von Blumenthal and NYU President Linda Mills, alongside scholars from a range of disciplines such as Ares Kalandides, Radha Sarma Hegde, Arvind Rajagopal, Nadja-Christina Schneider, and others. A civic courage and intellectual integrity award ceremony, as well as musical performances, will complement the program.

The evening is going to conclude with a reception, offering space for informal exchange and networking among participants.
