News from Berlin - The Australian Embassy in Berlin, together with the Hertie School of Governance hosted a lecture and dialogue session with Prof. Michael Wesley and Dr. Andreas Nick on May 19th 2014. The event, held at Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, deliberated on the topic of ‘How Asia is Reshaping Our World’.

Asia’s rise as an emerging economic power; a region due to produce more than half of the world’s economic output and consume more energy than the rest of the world combined in a matter of decades, is a complex area of strategic interests. Both Australia and Germany have an interest in the region and its growth.

Prof. Michael Wesley gave a lecture specifically on ‘Strategic Challenges in the Asia Pacific Region: An Australian Perspective’. This was followed by a discussion with Dr. Andreas Nick on ‘Consequences for the European-Australian Relations: A German Perspective’.

The lecture and dialogue was organized to demonstrate the commitment of both Germany and Australia to the Berlin-Canberra Strategic Partnership Declaration, signed after the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2012.
