Prime Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst welcomed the French Ambassador to Germany, H.E. François Delattre, for a discussion at the State Chancellery on 24 June, 2024. European Minister Nathanael Liminski also participated in the meeting.

Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst stated, "France and Germany share a responsibility to ensure a strong Europe. Following the European elections, it is more crucial than ever to solidify this strength through concrete actions. Increasing our defence capabilities, becoming more competitive, and addressing internal threats to democracy—only a vibrant and strong Europe can maintain stability and peace. Nationalists and populists aim to destabilize it. We must not allow this. The upcoming French National Assembly elections are of significant importance not only for France but for our entire European Union."

In their discussion, Prime Minister Wüst and Ambassador Delattre also exchanged views on bilateral relations, the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in France, and the anniversary of the regional partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and the French region Hauts-de-France.

In France, elections to the National Assembly will be held on June 30 and July 7, 2024. President Macron called for new elections in France following the European elections.
