German-Moldovan Treaty on Development Cooperation

News from Berlin - German Foreign Minister Steinmeier welcomed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Iurie Leanca, this weekend at the Foreign Office in Berlin.

Moldova's relations with Germany and the EU were the focus of the meeting 13 days after the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union.

Following the discussion, Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Leanca signed a new framework agreement on German-Moldovan development cooperation. Through an even more intensive cooperation in the development sector, Germany plans to help and support Moldova activiely  on their path to  EU association.

The political relations between Germany and Moldava are problem-free and friendly and have intensified steadily in recent years. On April 30th , 2012 Germany and the Republic of Moldova celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In goal of Moldova’s way to Europe, Germany is an important partner and held in high esteem. In Berlin, as well as in Chisinau, a German-Moldovan Forum has formed that wants to expand and deepen contacts at the political, economic, cultural and scientific level.

The bilateral relations have been intensified by a number of official visits over the last few years. Foreign Minister Steinmeier met Prime Minister Leanca last on April 23rd , during a joint mission with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius in the Moldovan capital Chisinau.
