A German business and humanitarian delegation visited Uganda from June 2 to June 3, 2025, as part of a concerted effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. The visit, which brought together representatives from the Federal Republic of Germany, the state of Saxony, and various non-governmental organizations, aimed to reinforce cooperation in trade, development, and humanitarian initiatives.

Coordinated in close partnership with Uganda’s Embassy in Berlin and local institutions, the mission marked another step in deepening the multifaceted relationship between Germany and Uganda. The delegation held meetings with the German Embassy in Kampala and GIZ, the German Agency for International Cooperation, to review ongoing development projects and identify new areas of mutual interest. Their agenda also included engagements with the Uganda National NGO Forum and other civil society stakeholders, underlining a shared commitment to inclusive development and stronger community-based partnerships.

One of the highlights of the visit was a review of ongoing scientific collaboration between the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Leipzig University in Saxony. The two institutions have been working on a joint research project focusing on traditional medicine. The initiative, now approaching its conclusion, has led to the development of a medicinal wound spray derived from indigenous knowledge, which is currently under review by Uganda’s National Drug Authority.

The delegation also participated in a high-level business dinner hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Kampala. The event provided an opportunity for German delegates to engage with local entrepreneurs and innovators, including Makerere Innovation and Incubation Centre, Mobile Scan Technologies, Tulima Solar, and the ICT Association of Uganda. Discussions centered around digital transformation, sustainable technology, and entrepreneurship, with a clear focus on identifying scalable investment opportunities.

As part of their itinerary, the visitors toured Gogo Electric, a Ugandan-German joint venture based in Ntinda. The company manufactures electric motorcycles and lithium batteries and operates over 120 battery swap stations across central and eastern Uganda. The delegation expressed particular interest in Gogo’s sustainable business model, which blends clean technology with grassroots economic empowerment.

In a gesture of solidarity with vulnerable communities, the delegation also visited the Jesuit Refugee Service Centre in Nsambya. The center offers vocational training to refugees and urban poor in fields such as tailoring, IT, culinary arts, and urban agriculture. Through a partnership with a German school, the program fosters self-reliance and social inclusion, reflecting shared humanitarian values..
