From Andalusia to Aleppo: A Solo Concert by Muhammad Qadri Dalal

The concert in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church will be his first concert in Berlin and a special opportunity to hear the result of his deep musical development

Syrian musician Muhammad Qadri Dalal is one of the last true masters of improvisational Middle Eastern music, he is a transmitter of a musical tradition that he acquired during his childhood and therefore keeps alive traditional cultural memory.

Dalal studied violin and Western music theory. Subsequently, he completed his studies in music and literature at Al Azhar University in Cairo and practiced between 1966 and 1971 as a professor at the National Conservatory of Casablanca, in Morocco, where he discovered Andalusian music through the teacher Hajj Idris Benjelloum. As an interpreter, throughout his long career Dalal has performed in the Middle East, Europe, USA, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, both alone and as a member of the Al Kindi Ensemble created by the late musician and French orientalist Julien Weiss. He has also accompanied legendary voices of Arabic music, such as Sabri Moudallal, Adib al-Dayikh and Hamza Shakkur. In addition, Dalal has published numerous works in Arabic on musical theory: The religious song in Aleppo, Three centuries of Singing in Aleppo, The Masters Of The Tarab Of Aleppo, CONSIDERATIONS ON THE MAQAMAT, as well as a some books for children.  

The concert was on 18th of September Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtniskirche, Berlin at 19.30
