On Tuesday July 12th, the exhibition Fotcienda was presented in the Cultural Space of the Embassy of Spain in Berlin with a symposium on the interaction between science and art.

Fotcienda is the national scientific photography contest organized by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). The initiative employs scientists engage individuals in scientific projects.

The Counsellor for culture made the initial presentation followed the Director of FECYT José Ignacio Fernández Vera, who made a speech presenting his institution and the project. Professor Victor Puntés from ICN2 Barcelona and Karin Ohlenschläger from the Centre for Art and Industrial Creation, Gijon Laboral were in attendance.

Professor Puntés, explained that he discovered aesthetic values in his investigations by testing his hypothesis using scientific experiments. As well, Ohlenschläger argued that art acts as a catalyst for new spaces for science. She invited scientists to assume new perspectives that broaden their research field.

Among the many who attended the event, there was a Representative of the Society of Spanish scientists in Germany (CERFA), as well as delegates from various German universities. After the discussion, the evening continued with public participation in a high level debate.
