The Festival of International New Drama (FIND) returns to Berlin from April 16 to 26, 2026, transforming the Schaubühne in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf into a meeting point for contemporary theatre from around the world. The annual festival presents world premieres, guest performances, workshop presentations, and short plays, highlighting new voices and experimental stage practices.

This year’s program brings together directors and writers from Brazil, Canada, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, and Norway. By combining newly developed productions with visiting performances, the festival creates a dialogue between distinct theatrical traditions. The result is a program that foregrounds new writing, interdisciplinary performance, and evolving narrative forms within contemporary international theatre.

British director Katie Mitchell is featured as the 2026 “Artist in Focus.” A former resident director at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre, Mitchell has also worked extensively at London’s National Theatre, where she was part of the artistic leadership. Her productions, presented internationally across theatre and opera, are known for their precise staging and integration of live video and cinematic techniques.

All performances and accompanying events take place at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz on Kurfürstendamm. Alongside premieres and guest productions, workshop presentations offer insight into works in progress and artistic processes. The festival format encourages exchange between visiting theatre-makers and Berlin audiences while showcasing new dramatic voices.

With its emphasis on premieres, collaboration, and formal experimentation, FIND 2026 reinforces Berlin’s position as a platform for contemporary international theatre. The festival offers a concentrated view of current global dramaturgy and the artists shaping new directions on stage.
