Festival of the Francophonie of the Canadian Embassy in Berlin
A Celebration of French-Speaking Cultures in Berlin

On March 18, 2023 the Canadian Embassy in Berlin hosted the Festival of the Francophonie, in honor of the Canada-Québec-Haiti 2023 co-chairmanship of the Network of Francophone Embassies and Missions in Berlin. The festival offered visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of French-speaking cultures through a range of activities, including culinary delights, film screenings, music, games, and information booths on the cultural and social aspects of Québec, Canada, and Haiti.
One of the festival's highlights was the Grande tablée, where visitors had the chance to savor Canadian delicacies like poutine and maple syrup, as well as Creole dishes. The Festival of the Francophonie offered an opportunity for individuals of all ages to enjoy themselves, both children, young adults and elders. Indeed, it featured DJ Babxi's music, short films in French, as well as fun workshops for kids. Moreover, visitors had also the possibility to engage in amusing games in both German and French languages. Young festival visitors were also able to listen to fairy tales in both languages and participate in age-appropriate workshops in the Timber Hall of the Embassy.
Admission to the festival was free, thereby ensuring to everyone the possibility to participate and visitors easily registered on the online platform of eventbrite.de.
Furthermore, as shown in the picture, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or Mounties, pose in front of the Canadian Embassy on Leipziger Platz in Berlin. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is a famous Canadian police force known for their iconic uniform, which includes a red serge tunic, Stetson hat, and riding boots. Their presence added a touch of Canadian cultural symbolism to the event, as the Mounties are an iconic symbol of Canada and are instantly recognizable around the world.
In summary, the Festival of the Francophonie offered a unique opportunity to explore the diverse cultures and traditions of the French-speaking world. With its array of activities and events, the festival offered a fun-filled day that celebrates the richness of the Francophone community in Berlin and highlighted the diversity and richness of the francophone world, featuring culinary delicacies, music, workshops, informative booths, and films of the Canadian community in the vibrant capital city.
